Sherman E8 - Getting the Sherman E8 too Drive Without Issues
Armortek Kits
Liam M
Dave M sent me a request to try and fix the track running issue he was having with one of his Sherman E8, it seemed that even on smooth concrete he could not get the second Sherman to drive without a track running up over the drive sprocket. After a lot of back and forward and checking the usual suspects, which Dave had done many times, road wheels aligned, drive sprocket aligned, swap track left to right and so on, we realised that it was a deeper problem. My E8 always ran terribly but I put that down to the M4 threaded rod that was used as track pins (kit pins went in the bin?) when the builder built the kit so the fix was on the “one day/someday” list to be looked at when I had the time to fix the track pins. After Dave’s request I looked closely at his video and some slow motion video of mine driving and it became quite obvious that the drive sprockets weren’t quite right for the T66 track link design. Off to the laser cutter and quite a few sprockets later we found a sweat spot that allows the tank to drive under any conditions without looking like it would ride up even with very loose track. These drive sprockets are available in the for sale section as earl and late.
